Porsche Macan
The first all-electric Porsche SUV
Porsche Macan review
The Macan returns as Porsche's first fully electric SUV, replacing the long-running gas model in the US. Built on the new 800-volt PPE platform it shares with Audi, it pairs genuine sports-car steering with a usable 300-mile range. Buyers choose from rear- and all-wheel-drive versions topping out in a 630-hp Turbo. It costs more than the old car but drives sharper and charges remarkably fast.
Porsche took a risk reinventing its best-selling model as an EV, and on the road the gamble pays off. The Macan steers with the precision Porsche owners expect, body roll is minimal thanks to a low-slung battery, and even the base rear-drive version feels eager. The dual-motor Macan 4 and 4S add traction and serious thrust, while the Turbo's 630 hp delivers genuinely startling acceleration. Air suspension, available rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring make a tall SUV behave like something much smaller.
The 800-volt architecture is the headline engineering story. On a fast enough DC charger the Macan accepts up to 270 kW, taking the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 21 minutes. EPA range lands near 300 miles for the efficient rear-drive model and dips into the 280s for the Turbo. Real-world efficiency is competitive but not class-leading; cold weather and big wheels take a visible toll.
Inside, the cabin is a clear generational leap, with a curved driver display, a central touchscreen and an optional passenger screen. Material quality is excellent and the driving position is spot-on. The trade-offs are familiar Porsche ones: rear-seat space is merely adequate, the options list inflates the price quickly, and some climate and drive functions now live in menus rather than physical switches.
Value is the sticking point. The Macan is more expensive than rivals like the Genesis Electrified GV70 and badge-aside competitors such as the Tesla Model Y Performance, and option pricing is steep. But nothing in the segment blends this much driver engagement with everyday EV usability, and that is precisely what Porsche buyers are paying for.

Drives like a real Porsche
I was skeptical about an electric Macan but the steering and body control are fantastic. Charging on road trips has been painless thanks to how quickly it gains range. My only gripe is how fast the options added to the sticker price.
Brilliant to drive, tight in back
As a daily driver it's quick, quiet and beautifully made. The back seat is a little snug for my teenagers on longer trips. Range has held up well except in deep winter when it drops noticeably.
Fast and fun, pricey to load up
The 4S has more than enough power and the cabin feels special every time I get in. I do wish more climate controls were physical buttons instead of the screen. Overall I have no regrets, just watch the build sheet.

Porsche Macan — frequently asked questions
Is the Porsche Macan still available with a gas engine in the US?
No. For the US market the current Macan is all-electric. Porsche ended sales of the gasoline Macan and the new generation is EV-only.
How far can the electric Macan go on a charge?
EPA-estimated range is roughly 300 miles for the efficient rear-drive model and around 280-290 miles for higher-output versions like the Turbo, depending on wheels and conditions.
How fast does it charge?
Its 800-volt system accepts up to 270 kW on a compatible DC fast charger, taking the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes. Home Level 2 charging tops up overnight.
How much does the Macan cost?
Pricing starts around $75,300 for the base Macan and climbs past $106,000 for the Turbo before options, which can add many thousands more.
How many people does it seat?
Five, in two rows. Front-seat space is generous; the rear seat is comfortable for adults on shorter trips but tighter than some rivals.
Does it have a front trunk?
Yes. In addition to the rear cargo area, the Macan has a small front trunk (frunk) useful for charging cables or a soft bag.
