Genesis GV70
Luxury SUV that punches above its badge
Genesis GV70 review
The Genesis GV70 is a compact luxury SUV that quietly undercuts German rivals while matching them on craftsmanship. Buyers get a richly trimmed cabin, a long warranty, and a choice of turbocharged gas engines or a quick all-electric version. It competes with the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 but bundles in more standard equipment. For shoppers who want premium feel without paying premium-brand prices, the GV70 makes a genuinely compelling case in a crowded segment.
On the road, the GV70 strikes a confident balance. The base 2.5-liter turbo four delivers 300 hp and brisk, linear acceleration, while the optional 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 pushes 375 hp for noticeably stronger pull. Standard all-wheel drive and a smooth eight-speed automatic keep things composed, and the suspension leans toward comfort without feeling soft. It is not as sharp as a BMW X3 M40i through corners, but it rides better than most rivals over broken pavement.
The cabin is where the GV70 earns its money. Material quality, stitching, and the layered dashboard design feel a class above the price. A wide infotainment display, crisp digital gauges, and physical climate controls make daily use easy, and the front seats are supportive on long trips. Rear-seat room is adequate rather than generous, and cargo space trails some competitors, so larger families may find it tight.
The Electrified GV70 adds genuine appeal for EV shoppers, offering strong acceleration, around 230-plus miles of range, and very fast charging on a compatible station. Fuel economy on the gas models is merely average for the class, and premium fuel is recommended. Genesis service still relies on Hyundai-shared dealer networks, which varies by region, though the long warranty and included maintenance soften that concern.
Value remains the headline. A loaded GV70 typically costs thousands less than an equivalently equipped X3 or Q5, and standard features like a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and a full suite of driver aids are included rather than optional. The trade-offs are modest cargo space and a dealer footprint that is still growing, but for most buyers the overall package is hard to beat.

Owner reviews
Feels more expensive than it is
I cross-shopped the X3 and Q5 and the GV70 felt the most special inside for thousands less. The 2.5T has plenty of power for daily driving and the ride is smooth. My only gripe is the trunk could be a little bigger.
Love the cabin, watch the fuel bills
The interior quality genuinely surprised me and the tech is easy to use. Real-world mileage is just okay though, and it likes premium gas. Still very happy overall for the price I paid.
Great value luxury SUV
Switched from a German SUV and don't miss it. Build quality is excellent and the included maintenance has been handy. The nearest Genesis service center is a bit of a drive, which is my one complaint.

Genesis GV70 — frequently asked questions
Is the Genesis GV70 a reliable SUV?
The GV70 shares proven engineering with Hyundai and Genesis models and generally posts solid reliability. A long basic and powertrain warranty plus complimentary scheduled maintenance for the early ownership period add peace of mind.
Does the GV70 require premium fuel?
Premium gasoline is recommended for the turbocharged gas engines to achieve full rated power, though they will run on regular. The Electrified GV70 uses no gas at all.
How much cargo space does the GV70 have?
Cargo room is adequate for the class but not class-leading, with space behind the rear seats for everyday gear and a flat load floor when the seats fold. Larger families may want to compare it against roomier rivals.
What is the difference between the 2.5T and 3.5T?
The 2.5T uses a 300 hp four-cylinder that suits most buyers, while the 3.5T twin-turbo V6 makes 375 hp for stronger acceleration and a sportier character at a higher price.
Does the GV70 come with all-wheel drive?
Yes, all-wheel drive is standard across the US lineup, which helps with traction in rain, snow, and light off-pavement use.
How does the GV70 compare to the BMW X3?
The GV70 typically offers more standard equipment and a richer-feeling cabin for less money, while the X3 edges it on outright handling sharpness and cargo space. Many buyers find the GV70 the better value.
