Kia Seltos
The benchmark mid-size SUV, sharper than ever
Kia Seltos review
The Kia Seltos helped define India's mid-size SUV boom, and the current facelifted version doubles down on that formula. It blends bold, slightly aggressive styling with a feature list that still embarrasses some pricier rivals. Three engine options, a wide spread of gearboxes and a long variant ladder mean there's a Seltos for most budgets above 11 lakh. It isn't the cheapest choice here, but it remains one of the most complete.
On the road the Seltos feels grown-up rather than exciting. The naturally aspirated 1.5 petrol is smooth and adequate for city duty but runs out of breath on the highway, while the 1.5 turbo-petrol with its 160 bhp and 7-speed DCT is genuinely quick and the pick for keen drivers. The diesel remains the long-distance favourite, returning strong efficiency and effortless cruising, though it can sound gruff when pushed. The ride is on the firmer side, soaking up big bumps well but fidgeting over broken urban patches.
Inside, the cabin is the Seltos's strongest card. The twin 10.25-inch screens, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, Bose audio and Level 2 ADAS on top variants make it feel a class above its price. Material quality is good in the areas you touch most, though some lower plastics betray the cost-cutting. Space is sensible rather than generous: four adults travel comfortably, but the rear seat is better for two than three on longer trips, and the 433-litre boot is usefully shaped.
Kia's after-sales network has expanded rapidly and ownership costs are reasonable, helped by competitive service packages. Safety has improved markedly too, with six airbags now standard and a strong Global NCAP showing for the latest body. The main caveats are the price-to-features creep at the top of the range and a ride that prioritises control over plushness.
Against the closely related Hyundai Creta, the Seltos plays the sportier, more design-led role. It won't be the default 'safe' pick for everyone, but buyers who want presence, performance and gadgetry will find it hard to ignore.

Owner reviews
Turbo DCT is a hoot
Bought the GTX+ turbo and the performance genuinely surprised me on highway overtakes. The features make every drive feel premium. Only gripe is the DCT hesitating slightly in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Great family SUV, firm ride
We use it mainly for city runs and weekend trips, and it has been reliable. The cabin feels loaded for the price. The ride is a bit stiff over potholes and my parents find the rear a touch tight.
Diesel is the mileage king
I clock long highway miles and the diesel automatic returns excellent efficiency without feeling slow. Service experience at my Kia dealer has been smooth so far. Wish the lower-spec plastics felt a bit richer.

Kia Seltos — frequently asked questions
Which Seltos engine should I choose?
Pick the 1.5 turbo-petrol DCT if you want performance, the diesel if you do high annual mileage or long highway runs, and the 1.5 NA petrol only for light city use on a tighter budget.
Is the Kia Seltos safe?
Yes. Six airbags are now standard across the range, and the latest body shell performed strongly in Global NCAP crash tests. Higher variants also add Level 2 ADAS features.
How does the Seltos compare to the Hyundai Creta?
They share a platform and many components, but the Seltos has sportier styling and a turbo-petrol option, while the Creta leans towards a softer, more comfort-focused character.
What is the real-world mileage?
Expect roughly 11-13 kmpl from the petrols in the city and 17-19 kmpl from the diesel on highways, depending on driving style and traffic.
Is the Seltos good for highway trips?
Very much so. The diesel and turbo-petrol offer relaxed cruising and strong overtaking, and the firm suspension keeps the SUV stable at speed.
Does it have a sunroof and ADAS?
Yes, higher variants get a panoramic sunroof and a Level 2 ADAS suite with features like lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
