Mahindra XUV700
Feature-packed three-row SUV with serious value
Mahindra XUV700 review
The Mahindra XUV700 is a three-row SUV that shook up its segment by offering big-car space, strong engines and a long features list at prices that undercut pricier rivals. Available in five- and seven-seat layouts with petrol or diesel power, it pairs genuine performance with driver-assistance tech rarely seen at this money. It is roomy, fast and well-equipped, though build quality and software polish still trail the established benchmarks.
On the road the XUV700 feels muscular. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol pushes out close to 197bhp, and the 2.2-litre diesel is a strong, flexible unit that suits long highway runs. Both engines come with a slick six-speed automatic that, while not the quickest-shifting unit around, suits the relaxed nature of the car. Ride quality is mostly absorbent, soaking up broken roads well, though there is a slight float at speed and body roll is noticeable when you push through corners.
Inside, the cabin is the headline act. Twin 10.25-inch screens, an optional panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a Sony sound system and Mahindra's AdrenoX software give it a genuinely premium feel. The Level 2 ADAS suite, with adaptive cruise and lane-keep assist, was a segment first in India. Space in the first two rows is excellent, though the third row is best reserved for children or short trips, and accessing it takes some effort.
The XUV700 isn't flawless. Cabin plastics and panel fit don't always match the price, and the infotainment, while feature-rich, can lag or throw up the occasional glitch. Diesel models can get vocal under hard acceleration, and the fuel economy is only average for the class. Service experiences vary by city, and some early cars had niggles that have largely been ironed out in later batches.
Where it wins decisively is value. You get more power, more equipment and more presence per rupee than almost anything else with three rows. It earned a 5-star Global NCAP rating, which adds real peace of mind for family buyers. For someone who wants a do-it-all SUV without stepping up to far costlier badges, the XUV700 makes a compelling case.

Owner reviews
Huge value for the money
The diesel automatic has plenty of grunt for highway cruising and the cabin still impresses friends who ride in it. Mileage is just okay in the city, but I knew that going in. Overall I have zero regrets at this price.
Feels safe and loaded
Bought it mainly for family trips and the space up front is brilliant. The ADAS features are genuinely useful on long drives. My only gripe is the touchscreen occasionally hangs and needs a restart.
Great car, watch the niggles
Performance and features are top class and it has handled long road trips beautifully. That said, I have had a couple of rattles and one software update to fix the infotainment. Service quality really depends on your dealer.

Mahindra XUV700 — frequently asked questions
Is the XUV700 available in a five-seat option?
Yes. Mahindra offers the XUV700 in both five- and seven-seat configurations, so buyers who don't need a third row can opt for the five-seater with a larger boot.
Which engine should I pick, petrol or diesel?
The turbo-petrol is smooth and quick, ideal for mostly city use, while the 2.2-litre diesel is more efficient and torquey, making it the better choice for high-mileage highway drivers.
Does the XUV700 get a sunroof?
Yes, higher AX7 variants come with a large panoramic sunroof, while lower trims are offered without one to keep prices down.
What is the ADAS feature set?
Top variants include Mahindra's Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking.
How safe is the XUV700?
It scored a full 5-star adult occupant rating in Global NCAP testing, backed by up to seven airbags, ESP and ISOFIX mounts on the higher trims.
Is the third row comfortable for adults?
The third row is best suited to children or short journeys. Adults will find legroom and access tight, so frequent six- or seven-up travel is not its strength.
