Tesla Model 3
The benchmark EV sedan, refined and sharpened
Tesla Model 3 review
The Tesla Model 3 is a compact electric sedan and the car that pushed EVs into the American mainstream. The 2024 "Highland" refresh brought a quieter cabin, sharper styling, longer range and a more comfortable ride without inflating the price much. Buyers choose it for class-leading efficiency, the Supercharger network and over-the-air updates. Three flavors cover the lineup: an affordable rear-drive base, a long-range dual-motor, and a genuinely quick Performance model.
On the road the Model 3 still feels a step ahead of most rivals where it matters for daily use. The single-motor rear-drive car is brisk enough for any commute, the Long Range adds reassuring all-wheel-drive traction and real highway range, and the Performance version delivers supercar-baiting acceleration with an adaptive suspension that finally makes it usable on rough roads. Efficiency remains the headline: few EVs travel as far per kilowatt-hour, and the Supercharger network takes the stress out of road trips in a way most competitors can't yet match.
The Highland update fixed many of the original car's irritations. Road and wind noise are noticeably lower, the ride is more compliant, and material quality inside is a clear step up, with a wraparound ambient light strip and ventilated front seats on higher trims. The flip side is Tesla's continued obsession with minimalism. Nearly every function lives in the central 15.4-inch touchscreen, and the Highland deleted the steering-column stalks in favor of horn and turn-signal buttons on the wheel, a change that takes real acclimatization.
Value is mixed. The starting price is competitive and running costs are low, but federal tax-credit eligibility shifts with trim and sourcing, so the effective price can change. Autopilot is standard, yet the genuinely useful driver-assist features and Full Self-Driving remain pricey add-ons or subscriptions. Build consistency has improved but can still vary panel to panel.
Practicality is better than the sleek shape suggests. There's a deep trunk plus a front trunk, the rear seat is adult-usable if not limousine-spacious, and the glass roof opens up the cabin. Families will want for nothing on space; tall passengers may find rear headroom merely adequate.

Owner reviews
Road trips are finally stress-free
The range and the Supercharger network changed how I drive. I've taken it from Denver to Phoenix twice without a second thought. Charging stops line up perfectly with bathroom breaks.
Love it, but miss the stalks
Efficiency is incredible and the ride is much quieter than my friend's older one. My only gripe is the turn-signal buttons on the wheel, which I still fumble on roundabouts. Otherwise a fantastic daily.
Cheap to run, screen does everything
My electricity costs are a fraction of what gas was, and the software updates keep adding features. Wish a few controls had physical buttons, and FSD is expensive, but I have no regrets buying it.

Tesla Model 3 — frequently asked questions
How far can the Tesla Model 3 go on a full charge?
Depending on trim, EPA-estimated range runs from about 272 miles for the base rear-drive car to roughly 363 miles for the Long Range model. Performance lands around 298 miles.
How long does it take to charge?
On a 250 kW Supercharger you can add up to about 175 miles in around 15 minutes. A home Level 2 wall connector typically gives a full overnight charge.
Does the Model 3 qualify for the federal tax credit?
Eligibility depends on the trim, battery sourcing and your income, and it can change over time. Confirm the current status for the exact variant before you buy.
Is the Model 3 good for families?
Yes. It seats five, has a deep trunk plus a front trunk, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, and a roomy rear bench, though very tall adults may find rear headroom just adequate.
What happened to the turn-signal stalks?
The 2024 Highland refresh moved turn signals and the horn to buttons on the steering wheel and put the gear selector on the touchscreen. Most owners adapt within a couple of weeks.
What are the running and maintenance costs like?
Low. There's no oil to change and regenerative braking reduces brake wear. Main costs are tires, cabin filters and electricity, which is far cheaper per mile than gasoline.
